2011 Word Series of Poker
I love Australia. It’s a sick good country to live in. We have sunshine, beaches, great people, a relaxed view on life, and a quasi-religious dedication to the cathartic benefits of beer and bbq. There’s only one minor issue with living on a big assed island in hemishphere south that arises around about this time each year…we are ****en miles away from Las Vegas!
Fortunately, this year we’ve actually managed to get our act together, and with the help of the good crews of Qantas, will be hitting LV right in time for the start of the WSOP 2011. AWWWWWWWW YEAAAAAH!

Its that time again, where decency gives way to degeneracy and thousands of would be punter hero’s put their money where their mouths are and pony up the cash to wage war on the felt. The World Series of Poker 2010 has begun. From the Rio Casino and Hotel, five events have already seen bracelets deposited on the arms of the winning players, and the race for contention for the 2010 Player of the Year is also underway. The World Series is a time where past beats can be forgotten, new strategies unveiled, and long standing dreams become a reality.
If 2009 was the Year of the Pro its going to be interesting to see how well the regulars fare against the sea of newcommers or part timers looking to rake in their own piece of the action. Quality of quantity, skill or luck, gamble or grind.

Its doubtful Chris Moneymaker knew in 2003, when he won the World Series of Poker that he’d change the way the world looks at poker, but it’s true nonetheless. Since then, people from around the world and certainly this author, have dreamed of sitting at the final table, holding pocket aces, and staring down Jackie Chan.
However any decent player knows you’re only as good as your last game (or tournament) and learning to play a good sit n go game can generate some serious cash very quickly (skill and the poker gods not withstanding) .

It’s been an interesting month of poker. The World Series Of Poker November Nine finally played it out to bring an end to the 2009 WSOP. Kudos to Eastgage for taking the mantle, and to Dennis Phillips, my personal fave, for taking out third and knowing when to lay down hands. I’m following the online vibe to decide whether the delayed final table was a win or a wash. If there was a media blitz leading up to the November Nine it certainly wasn’t focused south of the equator, and we downunder could have been forgiven for forgetting that there were still nine blokes still waiting to take their slice of a $20M pie. The lead up series was decent but I was a little dissapointed at the delayed telecast of the final table and having numerous hours of play condensed into two. Still, it closes out another big year and it was awesome to see the numbers up. Now on to a more personal front…
