No limit hold em strategy is a massive topic, but in this series we’ll be looking at some of the essential NLHE strategies to implement in your play, and then take a look at how those concepts can vary depending on whether we are playing tournament poker or cash games. Play Poker On Your Blackberry Mobile With BPlay

What can I tell ya…I’m a bit of a poker junkie, and if you’re anything like me and the poker crew if you have a spare three minutes waiting for a train, your morning coffee, or even if you’re just having some quality time on the porcelain throne… you might as well spend it playing poker. Final Table Action

It’s been an interesting month of poker. The World Series Of Poker November Nine finally played it out to bring an end to the 2009 WSOP. Kudos to Eastgage for taking the mantle, and to Dennis Phillips, my personal fave, for taking out third and knowing when to lay down hands. I’m following the online vibe to decide whether the delayed final table was a win or a wash. If there was a media blitz leading up to the November Nine it certainly wasn’t focused south of the equator, and we downunder could have been forgiven for forgetting that there were still nine blokes still waiting to take their slice of a $20M pie. The lead up series was decent but I was a little dissapointed at the delayed telecast of the final table and having numerous hours of play condensed into two. Still, it closes out another big year and it was awesome to see the numbers up. Now on to a more personal front…

The decision to start playing small ball poker and integrating it into an overall adaptive poker strategy is a change players on all levels are making.  The style of play now known as ‘small ball’ has probably been in circulation as long as poker has.  However, its recognition and emergence as a profitable form of play has been assisted through it’s adoption by poker pro Daniel Negreanu, the man also responsible for the styles current moniker.  For those of us who have suffered one too many bad beats at the business end of a massive pot, it seems there might be some pretty tempting reasons to implement small ball poker into our playing repertoire.  Read the rest of this entry

Laying Down Jacks Full At The World Series

This is a pretty sick poker hand and a great laydown.  Imagine being at the World Series and rivering Jack’s full and having the presence of mind and situational awareness to know you’re beat.  Not only does Romanello lay it down correctly, he does it with about the same level of nonchalance that most of us send 8 high into the muck.   What makes this a priceless poker video though is Matusows reaction at the end.  Huge laydown, much respect, but I’m with the Mouth on this one.

I was playing at a home game last night and had a particularly up and down evening.  It was a single table deep stack tourney with limited rebuys.  Having been on holidays and playing some winning poker of late I was perhaps less concerned with the outcome than usual and just really enjoying the game.  However, being able to take a few steps back from the table highlighted a couple of interesting things.  We’ve all heard the maxim in poker that all you need is ‘a chip and a chair’.  If you haven’t, the story goes like this…
